You need search for the specific benefits of your product or service. You want to find every obvious and not so obvious benefit. Then translate each benefit into as many different headlines as you can.

Never try to be clever, sarcastic, humorous or salesy, because what you think is clever and funny may not translate to the reader. Tell it as it is with facts and specific information.

Create a winning headline for adverts, press releases, blog posts, social media posts, video titles, etc...

Headlines give an immediate reason to be interested in what you are selling. Because of this they are very, very, very important!

A headline needs to be targeted, specific and be able to interest, motivate and compel your potential customer to read, watch or listen to your sales message.

When writing headlines think of as many specific benefits your product or service provides, but do this from your customers’ view point and not your own.

Here are 5 tips to help you create a winning headline:

  1. Start working on your headline after you have written the creative copy or worked out the details of the offer and then aim to write at least 10 -15 headlines starting by being as daring, outrageous and attention grabbing as you can be.
  2. Focus on the benefits and not the features and understand 'what's in it for the customer' – what is it that they are interested in?
  3. Narrow your list of headlines down to your top three favourites.
  4. Test each headline separately and track the responses. Use social media to test and the measure responses.
  5. Once you have your favourite headline, continue to improve upon it. Never stop trying to improve upon it. Write, test, measure, repeat…

Always make your headline interesting, compelling, powerful and exciting whilst remembering it needs to be believable and factual.
